The Solihull Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) Beer and Cider Festival officially opened today at the Oliver Bird Hall, marking the start of a weekend celebration of traditional brewing and local craftsmanship. Running from Friday 25th to Sunday 27th July, the Festival brings together a wide array of real ales and ciders from independent breweries across the region and beyond.
Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst, Member of Parliament for Solihull West & Shirley and a strong advocate for the hospitality sector, attended the opening day to show his support for Solihull CAMRA and the vital role independent brewers play in the local economy and cultural life.
Speaking at the event, Dr Shastri-Hurst said:
“It was a real pleasure to attend the Solihull CAMRA Beer and Cider Festival at the Oliver Bird Hall. The range and quality of ales and ciders on offer demonstrated the passion of our independent brewers.
As a supporter of CAMRA and of real ales, I was delighted to meet with volunteers and organisers to hear more about their important work promoting traditional brewing, protecting pubs, and supporting local communities.
Events like this not only showcase the best of British brewing but also highlight the importance of sustaining the independent hospitality sector, which remains a cornerstone of our local and national identity.”
The local MP is also running a campaign in support of our local pubs, who are under added pressure due to the Government’s tax rises on these businesses. Residents can support Neil’s campaign by visiting www.drneilshastri-hurst.co.uk/campaigns/saveourlocalpubs
