Last weekend, Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst, Member of Parliament for Solihull West & Shirley, visited the Blossomfield Sports Club to take part in the Solihull Pétanque Open Day – a fantastic local event celebrating sport, friendship, and community spirit.
Solihull Pétanque has been a part of the borough’s sporting landscape for over 40 years. Founded in September 1982 and affiliated with the national governing body, now Pétanque England, the club has called Blossomfield Sports Club on Widney Lane home since 1996. It continues to offer a warm welcome to players of all ages and abilities to enjoy the classic French sport of boules.
Speaking after the event, Dr Shastri-Hurst said:
It was a real pleasure to meet members of Solihull Pétanque and try my hand at a game that clearly brings so much enjoyment to so many. I am grateful to Gary and Clive for their coaching techniques.
What struck me most was the strong sense of community at the heart of the club. Facilities like Blossomfield Sports Club are vital to the health and wellbeing of our area – not just by encouraging people to stay active, but by fostering friendships, inclusion, and local pride.
