On English Whisky Day, Wednesday 26th February, Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst, Member of Parliament for Solihull West & Shirley, met with constituents Joan and Anthony Dillon, proud owners of the Spirit of Birmingham Distillery.
A variety of English Whisky’s were displayed in Parliament, at an event organised by the English Whisky Guild, to showcase quality English Whiskies. The event presented the opportunity to learn more about the members' whisky journeys to date, future ambitions, and vision to recognise more types of whisky leading to a wider English Whisky category. The day aims to share stories about how English Whisky contributes to local communities, tourism, and economies across all regions of England.
Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst MP said:
I was delighted to meet with Joan and Anthony from Solihull West & Shirley to discuss their distillery, the Spirit of Birmingham. We discussed their excellent products, including fine whisky, rum, and vodka. The event in Parliament presented an opportunity to discuss the pressing challenges faced by multiple distilleries producing English Whisky and DEFRA’s recent report on ‘English Whisky / English Whiskey’ following the application for Geographical Indication.
