Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst MP and his team completed their first annual fundraiser and secured two defibs, and several bleed kits this summer which has provided depth in vital life saving equipment across Solihull West & Shirley.
The funds were raised through the “Solihull Way Walk”, a demanding 20-mile route completed by Dr Shastri-Hurst and supporters from the local community. The proceeds have already gone towards the purchase of a defibrillator cabinet and essential medical equipment, including several bleed kits, which have been distributed to key community locations across the constituency.
Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst recently unveiled the new installation at Wave Café in Earlswood Craft Centre, where local owners Laura and Charles have proudly mounted the equipment outside their café. The addition of this lifesaving device follows the tragic loss of Paul, a much-loved local handyman who suffered a fatal heart attack in the area.
Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst said:
“Access to defibrillators and bleed kits can make the difference between life and death in an emergency. It’s vital that our communities have this equipment close at hand, and I’m deeply grateful to everyone who supported our Solihull Way fundraiser. Being able to unveil this defibrillator and bleed kit at Wave Café, a true community hub, is a fitting reminder of how working together can prevent future tragedies.”
Neil also thanked the many residents, volunteers, and businesses who supported the walk and contributed to the fundraising effort.
“This was very much a team effort. The generosity, energy, and community spirit shown throughout Solihull West & Shirley continue to make me incredibly proud to represent this area,”
