Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst, MP for Solihull West & Shirley, visited Cornerways in Olton to meet residents, volunteers, and supporters and see the progress being made restoring the community garden.
Cornerways is a supported living service managed by Solihull Community Housing and supported by Aspects Care, providing support for residents with learning disabilities, sensory impairments, and physical disabilities. Earlier this year, Friends of Cornerways was established to transform the site's gardens into a more accessible, welcoming and enjoyable outdoor space for residents.
During his visit, Dr Shastri-Hurst heard about the work that has gone into transforming the garden and the difference the project is already making. What was previously an overgrown and underused space is being turned into an area that residents can enjoy and take pride in, supporting their health and wellbeing.
Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst MP said:
“It was a real pleasure to visit Cornerways and see first-hand the work that residents, volunteers and supporters have put into transforming the garden. Having an accessible outdoor space like this can make a real difference to people’s health and wellbeing.
“I was more than happy to get stuck in and help spread the new shingle, and it was lovely to spend time with residents and see the project progressing. It was clear how much the garden means to them, and how proud they are of what they have helped to create.
“I would like to thank everyone involved with Friends of Cornerways for all the time and effort they have put into making this project such a success, and for making me feel so welcome during my visit. I look forward to seeing how the garden continues to develop and, most importantly, seeing residents continue to enjoy a space that they have helped transform”
