Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst, Member of Parliament for Solihull West & Shirley and former surgeon, is calling on eligible residents across Solihull Borough to take full advantage of the NHS Cancer Screening Tour Bus, which is now visiting Mell Square on 25th June 2025 between 09:30 – 16:00.
The mobile unit provides health checks and important screening information about cancer, directly into the heart of the community, aiming to boost early detection and reduce preventable deaths from cancer.
“As someone who has spent years on the front line of our NHS, I know just how critical early diagnosis is,” said Dr Shastri-Hurst. “Screening can detect a problem before symptoms even appear – when treatment is most effective and outcomes are improved. This initiative has the potential to save lives and I urge every eligible individual to attend.”
Screening programmes are designed to identify apparently healthy people who may be at increased risk of serious illness. The benefits include:
- Detecting issues early, often before symptoms arise
- Improving treatment success rates
- Empowering individuals with information about their health
- Reducing the risk of complications and disease progression
- Preventing some deaths from common cancers
Dr Shastri-Hurst added: “Our community deserves the very best in preventative care. I am campaigning to ensure Solihull receives the health provisions it needs, and that starts with empowering residents to take proactive steps in safeguarding their wellbeing.”
The Cancer Screening Bus is part of the NHS’s commitment to improving access and outcomes across the region. Full details of the service, including eligibility, times and locations, can be found at:
