Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst, Member of Parliament for Solihull West and Shirley, visited St Margaret’s Church of England Primary School this week to mark UK Parliament Week, engaging with enthusiastic pupils from Years 5 and 6.
During the visit, Dr Shastri-Hurst spoke to pupils about the role of Parliament, the work of an MP, and the importance of active citizenship. He then took part in a lively Q&A session, with students raising a wide range of thoughtful and well-informed questions — from how laws are made to what inspires someone to enter public service.
Speaking after the visit, Dr Shastri-Hurst said:
“It was a real pleasure to visit St Margaret’s for UK Parliament Week. The pupils asked excellent, insightful questions that showed a genuine curiosity about how our democracy works. Helping young people understand the value of participation in our democratic life is vital, and I was inspired by their engagement and enthusiasm.”
UK Parliament Week is a nationwide initiative encouraging people of all ages to learn more about Parliament, politics, and how they can make their voices heard.
