On Sunday 29th June 2025, Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst, Member of Parliament for Solihull West & Shirley, joined residents in Olton for the much-loved community event, St Bernard’s in Bloom.
The event, now a highlight of the local calendar, saw dozens of beautifully maintained private gardens open to the public. It offered an opportunity not only to celebrate local horticultural talent but also to support a vital cause – with all proceeds going to The Stroke Association.
In 2024, St Bernard’s in Bloom welcomed over 1,000 visitors and raised more than £11,000. This year’s event once again drew a strong turnout and continued its mission to support stroke survivors and their families through charitable giving.
Following his visit, Dr Shastri-Hurst said:
I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the dedicated gardeners of Olton, whose hard work and creativity have brought such colour and joy to the community.
Events like St Bernard’s in Bloom embody the spirit of Olton – generous, community-minded, and rooted in neighbourliness. That it also raises vital funds for The Stroke Association makes it all the more special. It was a pleasure to walk through the gardens and meet so many residents who take such pride in their community and in helping others.
