Statement from Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst MP regarding Jaguar Land Rover's plans to reduce its workforce:
I have spoken with representatives from Jaguar Land Rover today following the announcement that the company plans to cut jobs over the next two years. With JLR’s Solihull plant at the heart of our community, I know this will be deeply concerning news for those whose jobs and families may be affected.
JLR made clear to me that these are difficult decisions it believes are necessary to secure the long-term future of this important British carmaker. The company has faced immense headwinds - from the damaging cyber attack last year and persistently high energy costs, to a challenging industrial environment and US tariffs affecting its largest overseas market. Together, these pressures have contributed to a significant downturn for the business.
My immediate priority is supporting people here in Solihull. If you are affected by today’s announcement and believe my office can assist, please do get in touch and we will do everything we can to help.
