Today the Conservative Party elected its third female leader and, as of tomorrow, the third female Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. I congratulate Liz Truss on her hard earned victory.
As she assumes the mantle of the highest political office in the land, it is a time of global uncertainty. I wish her and her government the very best in tackling these challenges.
After a hard fought leadership contest, I pay tribute to all the candidates who put their name forwards. In particular, I pass on my commiserations to Rishi Sunak who, along with Liz, put forward a vision for the country to the Conservative Party membership.
It is now time for the whole Party to unite behind the new Prime Minister and deliver for the British people.
