The NHS is facing an unprecedented challenge to tackle backlogs caused by the pandemic and bring down waiting times for patients. This is especially the case for those who are waiting for lifesaving checks and scans.
That is why the Government are opening an additional 19 Community Diagnostic Centres (CDCs) this year. This builds upon the 92 operational CDCs already open and delivering three million potentially lifesaving checks, tests, and scans, through ground-breaking technology.
The Government is turbocharging the response to covid backlogs, cutting waiting times, and ensuring patients get the care they need when and where they need it. This will all help to deliver on one of the Government’s key five priorities for this year: cutting NHS waiting times.
The Conservative Government are doing this by:
- Establishing 19 additional Community Diagnostic Centres, performing 1.1 million tests, checks and scans every year.
- Building on the 92 operational Community Diagnostic Centres that have already carried out three million tests, scans and checks across the country.
- Backing Community Diagnostic Centres with £2.3 billion of funding, ensuring a range of equipment to treat patients properly.
- Launching the Elective Recovery Taskforce, unlocking spare capacity in the independent sector to help bust the Covid-19 backlogs.
- Performing over nine million additional tests per year by 2025, helping to deliver the service patients expect from the NHS.
- Investing an extra £45.6 billion in funding for health and social care over the next three years, delivering better care for patients.
